Hotel jobs in Singapore…

January 2nd, 2016 by Dave

Unhappily, there have been a number of shocking stories and documentaries about the bad working conditions in Dubai. Worker exploitation, it is suggested, is a problem that needs to be investigated further, as do allegations regarding the confiscation of hotel and construction workers’ passports. But these problems have not been reported as affecting workers entering the temporary labour market from Western Europe. Indeed, Western Europeans are regularly protected by agencies that go out to the countries in which they offer work, checking how things are running on the ground. Hotel jobs Dubai, hospitality jobs singapore and hotel jobs Gulf are consequently pretty safe. In fact, those who speak good English will often find themselves being treated especially well. After all, they are a major asset to the businesses they represent; able to communicate with customers from all over the world.

Beyond the preferential treatment in store for English-fluent workers, jobs in the UAE and Far East are attractive because they are up for grabs now: hundreds, even thousands of jobs await take-up. Therefore, if you’ve spent the last few months to a year writing unsuccessful cover letters for opportunities in your desired job sector, it might be time to take a break, earn some money abroad and come back refreshed and ready to face the UK labour market once more. What a lot of successful jobseekers have at the moment that the unsuccessful interviewees lack is often little more than an extra dose of persistence. But there comes a point for each of us where our patience is tested to the limit. And it’s rarely worth pushing beyond that point until we reach total exasperation or despair. It’s probably better to look instead at hotel jobs and hospitality jobs abroad.

Catering and hospitality might be sectors you worked in as a student trying to earn a bit of extra cash. However, when taken more seriously these sectors can genuinely offer a great deal more than you might think. A career in events management, for example, could easily begin with the manager having gained experience as a waiter or room servant. All of a sudden, catering jobs, hotel jobs Dubai and hotel jobs Gulf start to look a little more desirable when you think of what they might lead to. And hospitality jobs singapore have the added perk of allowing language enthusiasts to pick up the basics in Chinese, Malay or Tamil. People who are less disposed to learning local lingo can rest assured that English is widely spoken in Singapore too.

Bacs has now been around for nearly 45 years and offers a quick and relatively painless way to transfer funds from one account to another. Bacs software can be integrated with your regular accounting systems, taking a lot of the time and worry out of moving money around. But if you’re thinking of making the switch from more traditional payment systems to bacs payments, you’ll no doubt have a few questions to ask. Is it worth the trouble that inevitably comes with change? In a time of cyber-theft, is it really secure? In general, do the advantages outweigh the problems and potential pitfalls?

1) Speed. The first advantage of bacs is the speed with which transfers are fulfilled. Although three working days is generally the advertised time frame – still faster than a cheque – most payments today are made with the Faster Payment System (FPS) which is all but instant. This means almost all of your payments will turn up in the target account on the same day, if not quicker.

2) Security. Although many people have anxieties about the safety of transferring money electronically, bacs has many kinds of security and is an extremely safe way to move cash. In the highly unlikely event that you do run into problems, there are measures in place to recover your money, anyway. In times past employers and firms would have dealt more in cash, meaning that they would have to keep large sums of money on the premises – itself a security risk. Cheques, too, can get mislaid – meaning you’re never sure if or when they’re going to be cashed.

3) Cost. Transfers are free within the UK, so there’s no cost to your business apart from that of getting the new systems.

There are arguably one or two downsides to using bacs, but these are minor. bacs payments are free within the UK but there are fees for transferring money to other countries. Bacs software is really convenient and powerful, but you may not be sent notifications of money reaching your account – barely a problem in most cases, and not something you’d enjoy with a cheque either. Also, if there is a error with an account number, it can be hard to get back your funds – assuming it’s a valid, if mistaken account number. In almost every case, though, the advantages far outweigh any downsides and so moving to bacs will hardly be a bad move for a business.

Social worker jobs are vital to communities

February 2nd, 2014 by Sandra

Social work jobs are frequently much misunderstood, because social workers often feature in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. We all know that the media – tabloids especially – loves to tell a narrative of tragedy and evil. But the old proverb – when you do something right, people won’t know you’ve done anything at all – might well apply to social worker jobs. Well, at least in the sense that it is unlikely for there to be features in the papers about what excellent things are being done to help society by people in social services jobs: it is much more likely that they will focus on the one bad example that is not at all representative of social workers in general.

But the fact is that when a social worker does his or her job well – and the majority of them do, notwithstanding what the papers might say – it does get noticed. Not by the journalists, cameramen or news reporters, but by the children, men and women that social work jobs are there for. It seems that amidst all of the scandalising of community jobs, especially in the public sector, most people have lost the notion of what social work genuinely is, and what social services jobs actually do for the communities around the country.

A social worker is there for lots of different kinds of people – perhaps another reason why most people do not have a completely clear idea of what a social or care worker does. But the common thread lies in the truth that a lot of people in this country – and indeed in every country – are in a state of crisis in one form or another. Social workers are there to help them out of their crises, and because of this the job of a social worker can be as varied as the problems of the people being helped.

A significant part – just over half – of social services jobs are to do with supporting young people and their families. But there are lots of other categories of people that are benefited by people in social worker jobs. They include the elderly, drug addicts and alcohol abusers, people with learning disabilities or other mental health issues, and young offenders. Social work jobs consist of a range of activities. For instance, workers maintain regular contact with service users, in order to be able to advocate for them or to offer counselling support. They also write up evaluations, often in partnership with medical staff to evaluate service users’ needs.

Business reputation is everything at present. In the current climate of recession businesses are being held to account and demanded to prove their worth. In such a situation it is advisable that all financial payments are documented and saved in a sensible way. If ever someone wishes to question the investments made, expenses claimed or taxes paid by your company it is best for a business to have a transparent and straightforward set of figures and written procedures to hand. If this kind of paperwork is unavailable suspicions may be aroused. All of this may sound scary, above all if your company’s administration if not in the best of order. There is no need to panic for no reason, however, nor rush into costly procedures for getting on track after years of being set in bad ways. Indeed, analysis has shown that businesses who take on extra staff to scan and capture invoice data actually waste valuable resources: these employees doubtless have greater abilities than those required to manage scanners and copiers. They also inevitably make errors from time to time – as all humans do. More cost effective, then, is the option of digitising your invoice processing: accuracy and speed will be improved, much as document management and document processing systems will be if they too are left in the safe hands of specially adapted software.

All sectors whose day-to-day practice involves making and receiving payments can benefit from digitising their data. This includes nearly every institution, small business or collective, from schools to shops to media services and manufacturing companies. The idea may seem daunting for those who have never used computers for such tasks before, preferring to do them manually. But with good training, encouragement and ongoing technical support the change from manual to digital processing will feel like a breath of fresh air. The more mature employee, for example, will doubtless remember the days where the filing cabinets took up half of the office space, even seemed to be colonising it as the years went by! Nowadays, when documents are saved and managed on computers, clutter can be properly controlled.

What’s more, when document management, document processing and invoice processing are all undertaken digitally, businesses are at far lower risk of losing data. The same data can be saved on a shared drive, for example, and thus if one computer crashes there are several other systems from which ‘lost’ information can still be accessed. Not only is this useful for the company’s transparency, it also allows managers to monitor business success over long periods of time.

As with so many such developments, brise soleil and other sorts of natural climate control have been around a while but are now becoming more popular due to cost and environmental reasons. A ‘sun breaker’, as the concept translates, can be a very simple structure (little more than a carefully-placed wall), or it can be very complex, as with the extensive and mechanical wing-like structures in use. Other variants are glass louvres and several forms of external louvres.

The broad idea in all cases is to avoid using unnecessary power to control the temperature in a building by making more effective use of natural resources. During the course of a day, and through the changing seasons, any side of a building will receive greater or smaller proportions of sunlight. The trick is to maximise the ‘passive’ heating provided by the sun in the winter, whilst making sure that in the summer the level of sunlight is reduced and ventilation increased, to keep the building cool. Obviously, getting the balance wrong could result in freezing or stifling temperatures.

Whilst some forms of external louvre are extremely complex, other types are quite simple. Brise soleils can be little more than a wall, placed in such a location as to reduce the sun at certain points of the day and year. Louvres are usually positioned to allow the building to receive low-angle sun – at the beginning and end of the day, or during the winter, when the sun never rises very high in the sky. Higher-angle sun, at hotter points of the day and year, is stopped.

What this means is that the temperature of a building can be controlled far more effectively, reducing the need for extra energy on heating or air-conditioning systems. It also makes for a more comfortable building, because the air has not been heated or processed to the same extent – something that can leave it dry and recycled. This means staff are more comfortable, happier – and therefore more productive.

There are many examples of brise soleil and external louvres, which can be retrofitted to buildings. The simplest glass louvres are merely slats which open and close depending on the weather conditions. However, depending on your needs and budget, there are some really imaginative examples around, which add to the character of the building and are part of its architectural appeal, as well as any functional purpose.

With the purchase of any new technology there has to be a reason to justify the expenditure and the trouble of training personnel and moving systems. In the example of document management that purpose is efficiency, which has many impacts elsewhere – not least in terms of reputation, as well as your profits. invoice processing, for example, allows you to pay suppliers and clients on time (whilst not overpaying or duplicate paying); whilst this has financial benefits, it is also an important courtesy to those you work with and will do much to improve the relationship between you. That, of course, has knock-on impacts for the long-term arrangement between you. Cost is so usually not the sole criterion for changing provider or supplier; sub-standard service is a more common reason. People often don’t mind paying a touch more so long as it’s worth it. Remove that incentive and you can find their loyalty is (rightly) short-lived. Document processing can therefore be an important tool in your customer retention, with all that means for other areas of your business.

The overall idea is simple: all of your physical documents are converted to electronic ones. This is carried out by different means. At the bottom end of the scale a scan-to-pdf may be used. More sophisticated systems use optical character recognition and are capable of turning handwritten notes into e-copies.

These files can then be saved centrally, where they can be accessed by anyone who has the correct permissions. That means documents cannot be lost or destroyed, and photocopying certain papers is no longer required. It allows you to treat all documents the same – letter or email, paper or virtual invoice. Firms can often unwittingly employ a two-tier system depending on which medium they are more familiar with; either they will deal with paper first and leave the electronic communications, or vice versa. The risk is that some clients may get left behind this way.

Document processing cuts out this hierarchy, and a good document management system will mean that your employees do not have to distinguish between paper and electronic copies. This will be particularly important for your accounts department, since ignoring invoices or being slow to process them is a sure way to upset clients and suppliers. Consequently you should find that invoice processing enables your organisation to run more efficiently – something that those who use you will enjoy.

Shops to rent in north London boroughs

August 25th, 2012 by Sandra

The time has come to think about shops to rent in north london. As yet, Camden, Holloway Road and especially the borough of Harringey, all of which are locations in North London, have yet to develop their retail potential. This is not to say that they don’t have their fair share of shops, but rather that the shops existing in these areas are somewhat tarred with a bad reputation. Camden, people tend to think, consists of a few a run-down streets that are heaven for tourists, teenagers and those fond of piercings and goth or emo-style clothes. Holloway road, meanwhile, possesses rather too many shabby chain stores and could do with an injection of independent outlets. Harringey finds itself in the same boat, though to its credit it does possess a few good finds in terms of second hand clothes and bookshops. As you can tell, the time is right for entrepreneurial types to bring their fresh visions into commercial property London. Many predicted that our shopping habits would shift into the online realm. But this has not happened: apart from when we are buying products with which we are already familiar, we delight in the physical experience of shopping because we can touch, try and talk about the things we want to buy. And because this preference for physical experience looks set to stay, a long-term option of a shop for sale in London might also appeal to more experienced retailers.

The service industry might also look seriously at moving to North London premises. In spite of the financial recession, studies show that one of the last things we stop spending on is the experience of eating and drinking out. This is an understandable phenomenon: though our budgets have been tight, we still need respite from the monotonous daily grind of going from home, to the tube, to work and home again. Positive social experiences are what the majority misses most when the pressures of working life get too much. And because these are often best had while sitting around a table sharing food, conversation and smiles, commercial property in London is worth restaurateurs and pub landlords’ investment.

Commercial property London is also being turned into art galleries in some areas in London, particularly in East and South London. shops to rent in north london could easily be converted into art galleries too: there is no reason why north London would not welcome an injection of culture on its streets. A shop for sale in London is perhaps less attractive for the art expert who knows that the market can be fickle. Fashion designers can meanwhile resort to their skills for catering to new trends and desires.

While a handful of underground stations in London have begun offering a free Wifi service to tube travellers, much of the rest of the UK is only just catching up above ground. It might be expected that Britain’s capital, soon to be host to the Olympic games, would offer the best in internet speed but it would be totally unjust if rural Britain were left trailing behind in future. Indeed, though we are suffering the effects of an economic programme of austerity it is important that money is not withdrawn from projects designed to improve next generation access and community broadband. Because, as people face redundancy, pay cuts, and ‘streamlined’ conditions of employment, many of the most enterprising will take it upon themselves to set up small businesses, sell unwanted or unique goods, and even try going it alone in the freelance world. All of the above are good survival strategies when the state fails to provide us with support. But many of these strategies rely on strong ICT infrastructure.

So it emerges that excellent connectivity would profit the whole of Britain and not only those living in London and within commuting distance. Beyond the opportunity to be more inventive, better access to the internet also helps build a more cohesive society. Web forums full of sympathy and counsel have helped many a person get through a wide range of difficulties from hands-on DIY technical hitches to emotional splits and stressful exam times. In fact, access to the internet is of increasing importance to young and old single people who are so busy in their professional lives and so set in their social habits that they find online dating the most effective and exciting way to find a lover or friend.

And we hardly want to deny wonderful romantic adventures and companions to people on the sole grounds of them having poor internet service. next generation access should undoubtedly be evenly distributed and fast will be thanks to continuing improvements in the UK’s investment in ICT infrastructure. Obviously, community broadband projects will not only help solve the local issues described above. They will also incentivise British citizens to stay abreast of international goings-on and current affairs, stay in touch with friends, family and business partners abroad, and, crucially, get access to information, educational resources, entertainment and work.

We have all seen generic Powerpoint presentations that make us want to close our eyes.  The main issue to be aware of when writing and delivering sales presentations is making sure the audience come away with information that is in line with the original point of the presentation.  If the audience leave the presentation with any confusion, there has been a failure on your part. Powerpoint design allows for the presentation of large amounts of information, but this can be a challenge rather than a blessing, as there tends to be a temptation to include an excessive amount.

In sales, presenting information properly to prospective clients is vital .  From the first stages of introducing a product or service to closing the sale, at any stage one cannot risk the audience walking away feeling like their time has been wasted.  Pictures are sometimes added to presentations as an afterthought, but unfortunately or not, many of us have a tendency to engage more quickly and for longer with pictorial content, so this part of Powerpoint design might be more important than you realise.  Using images from the generic clipart folder to fill space, for example, sends a very particular  message about your presentation.  The audience is likely to automatically expect to see a boring  presentation, so they can sit back and not think  too much.  Your audience’s attention could be lost before you even start.  Buying a CD set of backgrounds and pictures, or subscribing to a big  online picture library, can be a very good  investment.

Powerpoint technology does allow users to create very dynamic and highly technological presentations, but it is important not to overdo it.  Often, presenters think that if their presentation looks new and dynamic, it will be effective, but the secret is to tailor the effects to ones that are actually useful to communicate your message, rather than throwing in any extra detail you can in the hope of hitting the ‘wow factor’.  A common mistake of this kind is the overuse of animations and transitions during a slide show – the audience has hardly been able to read what is on the screen before a new sentence flies in, creating something of a visual overload.

Powerpoint design is there to make communication easier, and it should be used with this in mind.  It is not necessary to approach sales presentations with an aim to wow your audience with your technical abilities, but equally, stock images and a tired old format will only remind them of all the other Powerpoint presentations they have ever seen.  As with so many other things in life, it is a question of finding the perfect balance.

When it comes to payday, your staff won’t be happy if their wages are not forthcoming. Neither will your clients tolerate overdue payments or incorrect invoice receipts. To prevent all of these issues, use bacs software for your financial transactions to ensure your business does not dip into the red. Let’s weigh up the situation between a business that does not use bacs payments, and a business that does. The business that does not use bacs pays all of its wages, salaries, suppliers, refunds, pensions, dividends, expenses and insurance settlements by cheque or cash. Each transaction requires the preparation, sorting and collating of cheques and invoices, and each of these has to conform with the relevant remittance advice. Correspondent administration costs are amplified by the cost of stationary and postage costs.
What’s more, you don’t know specifically when the money will leave your account, and a buffer is always needed, so your money is not always working as hard as it could. There will always be a margin for human error when transactions are managed manually, not to mention the chance for cheques to get lost or go missing.
Lastly, your employees and clients won’t be able to depend on a trustworthy and immediate payment by your business, thanks to the many factors that delay transaction time. Their cash flow and yours will suffer, and customers may move away to a different provider.

On the other hand, a company that uses bacs gains an immediate lead on the competition. You instantaneously make savings as stationary costs are eradicated from the equation. All types of expenditure, from wages to insurance settlements, are supplied for by bacs software. Time is saved, too, as bacs does all the banking work for you. Bacs will also authorise payments, so you no longer need worry about observing remittance advice – it’s already taken care of.

The additional control bacs software provides means you will know precisely when payments will leave your account. The outcome of this is that you’ll be able to make what is in your account work hard for you right up until it leaves your account. Bacs ensures your payments create only a single debit from your account on a certain date. The need to track individual payments is therefore removed. This increased efficiency puts the payer in the enviable position of being able to negotiate more favourable terms.

For your payees, organisations using bacs systems tend to pay earlier, and are perceived as more reliable. The payee will also save time handling banking of cheques and cash, as the money goes instantly into their account. These electronic payments appear as cleared funds immediately, which have the added bonus that payees earn interest sooner.

Using bacs software for all your business’s financial transactions imparts greater reliability to your operations, and a more fluid cashflow. There are correspondent benefits as mentioned above to bacs payments, such as negotiating potential and early interest. Bacs can really provide you with dependable solutions to financial transactions for both payer and payee.
